The Clothing Closet

Clothes Closet

In the New International Version according to the gospel of Matthew, chapter 25, verse 36, it states, “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”  In May 2008, the Missionary Department solicited for donations of used and new clothes in efforts of creating a Clothing Closet.  The sole purpose of this clothing closet was to provide clothing to people in need. During the infancy of the drive, one rack could be seen in the rear of the sanctuary with a few articles of clothing.  Within the second month of the drive, one office on the upper level of the church was dedicated to house the many clothes which had been recieved. )

Soles For Souls

Shoes 2 Shoes 1

In August 2009, under the leadership of Elder Joyce Sanders, the Soles for Souls campaign kicked-off.  This campaign was a spin-off of the concept conceived by Mr. Bill Herring called Disciples Shoe Drive.  The purpose of this drive was to assist with providing shoes to Haiti, the Creole French speaking Caribbean country.  Haiti was considered (until April 2009) the poorest country in the Americas.  Such as the economy would have it, most of the citizens of Haiti live on less than $2.00 per day. . . . The need to supply shoes to this country was a worthwhile cause to join in collaboration with churches around the city, for instance, the Greater New Hope Church supplied Mr. Herring with over 5,000 pairs of shoes last year.  Through the solicitation efforts of Elder Sanders, Beth-El Temple was able to supply Mr. Herring (Insert image) with over 1,100 pairs of shoes.  It is the desire of Elder Sanders that the Beth-El Temple Church will increase their donation to well over 5,000 to 10,000 pairs of shoes.  Another shipment of shoes will be picked up on January 15, 2010 by Deacon Earl.
